Surgery

Battle Ground Veterinary Clinic performs a wide range of surgeries. Appointments are available Monday-Thursday. Unless directed otherwise by your veterinarian, all pets coming in for surgery need to be fasted. Please with hold food after 10pm the night before surgery. Water can be left available through the night but please pick water up in the morning.

Routine Surgeries

Routine surgeries performed at Battle Ground Veterinary Clinic generally go home the night of surgery or the next day. These include:

• Spay/Neuter
• Minor/Small Growth Removal(s)
• Dental Prophylaxis +/- Oral Extraction(s)
• Front paw declaw

Additional Surgeries

More advanced surgeries generally require a longer period of hospitalization as well as special care measures at home. Orthopedic surgeries generally require physical rehabilitation to ensure the appropriate healing and return to function. More advanced surgeries performed at Battle Ground Veterinary Clinic include:

• Urinary bladder surgery for bladder stones (cystotomy)

The Benefits of Laser Surgery

We perform many of our surgeries with a carbon dioxide (CO2) laser in place of a traditional scalpel blade. Use of a laser minimizes the tearing, crushing, and bruising of tissue. This allows for less pain, bleeding, swelling, and redness post-operatively, reduces the risk of infection, and helps your pet feel more comfortable.

Requirements for Surgery

Our requirements and recommendations for surgery decrease potential surgical complications and protect our patients and our staff.

Requirements

• Dogs: We require a current Rabies vaccine, Distemper vaccine, and heartworm test.
  
• Cats: We require a current Rabies vaccine and FVRCP vaccine.

Recommendations

• Dogs: We recommend the Leptospirosis vaccine, Bordetella vaccine, Canine Influenza vaccine and Lyme vaccine.
• Cats: We recommend the FeLV vaccine.
• Both: Fecal testing and pre-anesthetic bloodwork are recommended to ensure overall health before anesthetizing our patients.
