Doctor giving Greyhound a Chiropractic Treatment

Dr. Wittke is a Certified Veterinary Chiropractor through the College of Animal Chiropractors and is also certified in Veterinary Spinal Manipulative Therapy through The Healing Oasis Wellness Center. He is also an avid endorser of alternative and integrative medicine.  His continuing education continues to broaden the scope of alternatives for treatment of each individual patient.

What is Chiropractic Adjustment?

Chiropractic adjustment can help to correct misaligned joints, decrease nerve pain, and decrease weakness. When a joint becomes misaligned, it can impinge or irritate nerves and cause quite a bit of pain for your pet. By restoring the joints to their proper alignment, the cause of pain is resolved. With proper chiropractic care, previously stiff and painful joints can show increased laxity and range of motion.

How Does Chiropractic Adjustment Work?

Chiropractic adjustment involves much more than just "cracking backs". Utilizing his in-depth knowledge of your pet's musculoskeletal system, Dr. Wittke first identifies the affected joints. He then determines the appropriate technique to realign the bones of the joint. By applying the correct force in the correct direction or angle, Dr. Wittke restores normal motion to the affected joint.

How Long Does Chiropractic Adjustment Take for Effect?

Since the joint is realigned during the chiropractic adjustment, we generally see results quickly. We expect to see the pain associated with joint misalignment and nerve irritation dissipate over the next day or two, if not immediately. Associated inflammation may take extra time to resolve. Some animals may have a physiologic disposition to joint misalignment and may need "tune ups" throughout their lives.

Does it Hurt?

Most of our patients do not experience any pain during chiropractic adjustment. Some patients may feel brief discomfort due to local inflammation, but with appropriate chiropractic adjustment, this pain will not persist.

Are There Any Side Effects?

Usually not. Some of our patients need to be rested for a few days following chiropractic adjustment to allow the inflammation to subside.
